Description

Silica-Coated Upconverting Nanoparticles (Silica-Coated UCNPs) consist of a core made of upconverting materials, often rare-earth elements or ions, such as ytterbium (Yb) and erbium (Er), and are surrounded by a silica (silicon dioxide, SiO2) shell. When exposed to near-infrared (NIR) light, they can emit visible or ultraviolet light through a process called upconversion luminescence. This property is particularly valuable for imaging applications because NIR light can penetrate deep into biological tissues, while visible or UV light provides high-resolution imaging.
