Gold (Au) Nanopowder/Nanoparticles exhibit strong absorption and scattering of light, particularly in the visible and near-infrared regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. This optical behavior makes them useful in applications such as biological imaging, photothermal therapy, and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). They also display a phenomenon known as surface plasmon resonance, where oscillations of free electrons on the nanoparticle’s surface interact with incident light, resulting in enhanced electromagnetic fields near the nanoparticle surface. SPR is exploited in sensing applications, biosensors, and plasmonic devices.
