Description

N-(Propargyl-PEG2)-PEG3-t-butyl ester is a compound consisting of two polyethylene glycol (PEG) chains linked to a propargyl group and a tert-butyl ester functionality. The tert-butyl ester group is formed by the reaction of the carboxyl group with tert-butanol. This group is commonly used as a protecting group for carboxylic acids, shielding them from unwanted reactions. Under suitable conditions, such as acidic or basic hydrolysis, the t-butyl ester can be removed, revealing the carboxylic acid functionality. The propargyl group (-C≡CH) contains a terminal alkyne functionality, enabling it to participate in various click chemistry reactions, such as copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) or strain-promoted azide-alkyne cycloaddition (SPAAC). PEG provides water solubility, biocompatibility, and steric hindrance to the molecule.
