16:0-18:1 PG (POPG) or 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phospho-(1′-rac-glycerol) (sodium salt) is a specific type of phospholipid, commonly used in biochemical and biophysical research, such as the study of lipid bilayers and cell membranes. Due to its similarity to natural phospholipids found in biological membranes, 16:0-18:1 PG is often used in research to mimic certain properties of cell membranes and lipid bilayers. 16:0-18:1 PG makes the investigation on biochemical and biophysical properties of lipid membranes possible, including membrane stability, ion transport, protein-lipid interactions and other membrane-related phenomena. Apart from that, IT can also be applied to the preparation of large unilamellar vesicles (LUVs) and formulation of bacterial membrane mimetic. This product is available in chloroform and powder.
