Biotin-(ring-6,6-d2) (D-Biotin-d2-(ring-6,6-d2), Bios II-(ring-6,6-d2), Coenzyme R-(ring-6,6-d2), Vitamin B7-(ring-6,6-d2), Vitamin B8-(ring-6,6-d2), Vitamin H-(ring-6,6-d2)) is used in metabolic studies and pharmacokinetic studies to trace the fate of biotin in biological systems. The substitution of deuterium at specific positions alters the mass and potentially the stability of the biotin molecule without significantly changing its biochemical properties. This allows researchers to track biotin metabolism and distribution using mass spectrometry or nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Isotopically labeled biotin is also used as an internal standard in quantitative assays.
