The amino group (-NH₂) is attached to the 5-position of the uridine base. This addition can influence the molecule’s hydrogen bonding, reactivity, and interactions with other molecules. The 2-position of the uridine base is modified with a thiouridine group (–S–), which replaces the typical oxygen at this position with a sulfur atom.
