tert-Butyldimethylsilyl Ether 4a,5-Dihydro Lovastatin ((2S)-2-Methyl-(1S,3S,4aR,7S,8S,8aS)-8-[2-[(2R,4R)-4-[[(1,1-dimethylethyl)dimethylsilyl]oxy]tetrahydro-6-oxo-2H-pyran-2-yl]ethyl]-1,2,3,4,4a,7,8,8a-octahydro-3,7-dimethyl-1-naphthalenyl Ester Butanoic Acid) is a modified form of lovastatin with a TBDMS protecting group and a dihydro modification. The TBDMS group is used to protect hydroxyl groups during synthesis, while the 4a,5-dihydro modification alters the molecule’s reactivity. The TBDMS group is used to protect hydroxyl groups during chemical synthesis. It can be removed later under specific conditions to reveal the original hydroxyl functionality. This protection can be crucial in multi-step syntheses where selective reactions are needed. Additionally, the TBDMS ether form of 4a,5-dihydro lovastatin can serve as an intermediate in the synthesis of other modified statins or derivatives.
