Description

Azide-functionalized nanoparticles (Az-NP) are nanoparticles that have been chemically modified to possess azide groups on their surface. Az-NPs can be designed for theranostic applications, where diagnosis and therapy are combined. For example, nanoparticles with a magnetic core can be used for MRI imaging, while the surface azide groups allow for the conjugation of therapeutic agents, enabling simultaneous imaging and treatment of diseases like cancer. In lateral flow assays, Az-NPs can be used to improve the detection of specific biomarkers. The azide groups enable the conjugation of nanoparticles to antibodies or antigens, enhancing the assay’s sensitivity and specificity. This approach is commonly used in point-of-care diagnostics for infectious diseases, pregnancy tests, and other rapid diagnostic tests.
