Description

PEG-b-PNIPAM-b-PCL is a triblock copolymer composed of three distinct polymer segments: polyethylene glycol (PEG), poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM), and poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL). PNIPAM (Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)) is a thermoresponsive polymer that undergoes a reversible phase transition from hydrophilic to hydrophobic at its lower critical solution temperature (LCST), typically around 32°C in water. The PCL segment is hydrophobic, biodegradable, and provides structural integrity. It is often used in drug delivery systems and tissue engineering due to its controlled degradation rate and mechanical properties. PEG-b-PNIPAM-b-PCL can be used to create smart hydrogels that respond to temperature changes. These hydrogels can undergo reversible swelling and deswelling in response to temperature changes, making them suitable for applications in tissue engineering, drug delivery, and wound healing. The PEG segment provides biocompatibility, while the PNIPAM segment provides thermoresponsive behavior, and the PCL segment provides mechanical strength and biodegradability.
