Description

PC-N3 (Phthalocyanine-Azide) is a compound combining the optical and electronic properties of phthalocyanine with the reactivity of azide groups. Phthalocyanine is a large, aromatic, and planar macrocycle consisting of four isoindole units connected by nitrogen atoms. It has a central cavity that can coordinate metal ions, often used in various applications due to its electronic and optical properties. Azide groups are reactive functional groups characterized by a linear arrangement of three nitrogen atoms (-N3). They are commonly used in click chemistry for attaching various functional entities to a molecule. PC-N3 is used as photosensitizers in PDT. The azide groups can be utilized for attaching targeting moieties or other therapeutic agents, enhancing the specificity of the treatment. In addition, the phthalocyanine core can act as a catalyst in various reactions. The azide groups can be used to functionalize the phthalocyanine with other catalytic entities or to immobilize it on supports for heterogeneous catalysis.
