Description

Plain Cationic Liposome containing DOTAP are invaluable tools in gene therapy, drug delivery, immunotherapy, and other biomedical fields. Cationic liposomes represent a class of lipid vesicles characterized by their net positive surface charge, which is imparted by the inclusion of cationic lipids in their formulation. DOTAP is a synthetic cationic lipid distinguished by its ability to form stable liposomes with high transfection efficiency. The inherent positive charge of DOTAP facilitates its interaction with negatively charged biomolecules, such as nucleic acids and proteins, as well as cell membranes. DOTAP liposomes typically adopt a bilayer structure with the hydrophilic headgroups oriented outward toward the aqueous environment and the hydrophobic tails forming the inner membrane core. These liposomes can vary in size from nanometers to micrometers, depending on the preparation method, and can be either unilamellar (single bilayer) or multilamellar (multiple bilayers). Importantly, DOTAP liposomes exhibit high zeta potential values due to their positive charge, contributing to their colloidal stability and ability to form complexes with negatively charged biomolecules.
