Description

Plain Liposomes made from Cardiolipin (CL), Lyophilized Powder are explored for their potential in drug delivery, particularly for mitochondrial-targeted therapies. Since cardiolipin is predominantly localized in the mitochondrial inner membrane, liposomes composed of cardiolipin or containing cardiolipin in their bilayer structure can be engineered to deliver therapeutic agents specifically to mitochondria. Additionally, cardiolipin is known to affect membrane curvature and the formation of membrane domains. As such, CL-based liposomes are widely used in the study of lipid-lipid interactions, membrane fusion, and membrane curvature. These liposomes are also used in the development of models to understand how anionic lipids, like cardiolipin, influence the structural integrity of cell membranes, protein binding, and the formation of lipid rafts.
