Polystyrene A HMPA (Aminoethyl Polystyrene functionalized with a 4-(hydroxymethyl)-phenoxyacetic acid linker) serves as a solid support to which the first amino acid is attached via the amine group of the aminoethyl functional group in solid-phase peptide synthesis. As the peptide chain elongates, each successive amino acid is added in a stepwise manner. The HMPA linker facilitates the attachment of additional functional molecules, allowing for the synthesis of peptides with greater complexity and versatility. This resin can also be used for the creation of peptide libraries for high-throughput screening applications in drug discovery.
