1,1′-bis(4-aminophenyl)-[4,4′-bipyridine]-1,1′-diium chloride (Vio-NH2) consists of a central bipyridine moiety ([4,4′-bipyridine]) that is substituted at both 1 and 1′ positions with 4-aminophenyl groups. The resulting compound is a dication because of the presence of two positive charges on the central bipyridine unit. It can be used as catalysts in various organic transformations, especially those involving electrophilic reactions or interactions with anionic substrates.
