1,1′-(1,4-phenylene)diurea (BDU) is a compound in which two amino groups (-NH2) are attached to the para (1,4-) positions of a benzene ring, and a urea group (-CONHCONH-) links the two amino groups. The urea functional groups in 1,1′-(1,4-phenylene)diurea can participate in crosslinking reactions with other molecules or polymers containing amine groups (-NH2). This property can be exploited to modify the mechanical, thermal, or chemical properties of polymers or to form hydrogels.
