18:0 PA (DSPA) or 1,2-distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphate (sodium salt), a synthetic phospholipid, is often used as a model lipid in research and laboratory studies. It is specific type of phosphatidic acid which is an essential component of cell membranes. 18:0 PA participates in various cellular processes, including signal transduction and membrane trafficking. It also serves as precursors for the synthesis of other important molecules in the cells. Due to its well-defined structure, 18:0 PA has been used to study the properties of membranes, the interactions with proteins and the interactions with lipid-proteins. Apart from that, 18:0 PA can also be used for the study of its vesiculation ability on different coat protein I (COPI) fission factor, its effects on intracellular Ca2+ concentration in C6 rat glioma and L2071 mouse fibroblast cells and its effects on phosphorylation of cytochrome b(558) alpha chain.
