Description

200nm DOPC/CHOL Liposomes, Lyophilized Powder are composed of two key components: 1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DOPC), an unsaturated phospholipid, and cholesterol (CHOL), a sterol molecule. DOPC is a zwitterionic phospholipid with two unsaturated fatty acid chains (oleic acid), which impart fluidity to the membrane. Cholesterol is a sterol molecule that is incorporated into the lipid bilayer of liposomes to enhance their structural integrity and membrane stability. DOPC/CHOL liposomes are extensively used as models for studying lipid-protein interactions. By incorporating membrane proteins into the liposome bilayer or by using liposomes to study interactions between membrane-associated proteins and lipids, researchers can explore mechanisms involved in cellular processes such as signal transduction, membrane trafficking, and receptor activation. Additionally, DOPC/CHOL liposomes serve as simplified models for studying biological membranes. Their lipid composition mimics the fluid-phase properties of cellular membranes, providing a platform for investigating processes like membrane fusion, protein insertion, and membrane-associated enzymatic activity.
