AAL Toxin TE2 ((2R)​-1-​[(1R,​2S,​4S,​13S)​-​14-​(Acetylamino)​-​2,​13-​dihydroxy-​4-​methyl-​1-​[(1R)​-​1-​methylpropyl]​tetradecyl]ester-1,​2,​3-​Propanetricarboxylic Acid) is a mycotoxin produced by the fungus Alternaria alternata. AAL toxin TE2 is used to study sphingolipid metabolism. By mimicking sphingolipids, it provides insights into how disruptions in these pathways can affect cellular function and contribute to disease. In addition, it induces cytotoxic effects in various cell types. It can be used to study the mechanisms of cell death (apoptosis) and the role of sphingolipids in regulating this process.
