Description

Biotin-PEG3-Mal (Biotin-PEG3-Maleimide) can be used to label proteins and peptides that contain exposed cysteine residues. By reacting with the -SH group of cysteine, the maleimide moiety forms a covalent bond, thereby attaching biotin to the protein or peptide. This labeled protein can then be used in various assays such as Western blotting, ELISA, or immunoprecipitation where detection or purification via streptavidin/biotin interaction is desired. Biotin is a vitamin (Vitamin B7) that is widely used as a molecular tag due to its high affinity for streptavidin and avidin proteins. This makes biotin a useful tool in molecular biology and biochemistry for labeling and detection purposes. PEG is often used to enhance solubility, reduce aggregation, and improve bioavailability of biomolecules. Maleimide is a reactive group that selectively reacts with sulfhydryl groups (-SH) of cysteine residues in proteins and peptides, forming a stable thioether bond. This makes maleimide useful for site-specific protein labeling and conjugation.
