Description

BOC-D-LYS(BIOTIN)-OH is useful for bioconjugation strategies where biotin needs to be linked to peptides or proteins. After synthesis, the biotinylated peptide can be used in affinity purification, detection assays (e.g., ELISA), or imaging applications by exploiting the biotin-streptavidin interaction. BOC stands for tert-butyloxycarbonyl, which is a protecting group used in organic synthesis to temporarily protect the amino group (NH₂) of amino acids. This protection prevents unwanted reactions at the amino group during peptide synthesis. D-LYS refers to D-lysine, which is an enantiomer of the natural L-lysine amino acid. Enantiomers are mirror-image molecules that are non-superimposable on their mirror image. In this case, D-lysine is the D-stereoisomer of lysine. Biotin is often used as a molecular tag due to its high affinity for streptavidin and avidin proteins, allowing for specific binding in various biochemical assays. The OH indicates a hydroxyl group, which may be present at the C-terminus of the molecule, providing flexibility for further chemical modifications or conjugations.
