Carboxymethyl-β-Cyclodextrin or Carboxymethyl-Beta-Cyclodextrin Sodium Salt or CM-B-CD is often used as a solubilizing agent and stabilizer in various applications, particularly in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. The introduction of carboxymethyl groups increases the water solubility of β-cyclodextrin, allowing it to form inclusion complexes with hydrophobic molecules that are poorly soluble in water. CM-β-CD can also improve the stability of drugs, proteins, and other biomolecules by forming inclusion complexes or by acting as a protective agent against degradation.
