Chloromethyl Polystyrene Resin is often used as the support resin for peptide synthesis, particularly in the early stages of solid-phase synthesis where amino acids are sequentially coupled to the resin. The chloromethyl group allows for the covalent attachment of the first amino acid to the resin, from which the peptide chain is elongated.
