Cholesterol-PEG-SH (Cholesterol-PEG-Thiol, CLS-PEG-SH) is an amphiphatic PEG derivative which forms micelles in water and can be used to prepare liposomes or nanoparticles for drug delivery system. The thiol moiety is reactive with maleimide to form a stable thioether bond. The Cholesterol-PEG-SH molecule’s versatility stems from its ability to self-assemble into various nanostructures, such as micelles, liposomes, or nanoparticles, depending on the surrounding conditions. These structures can encapsulate hydrophobic drugs, nucleic acids, or other therapeutic agents, protecting them and facilitating their targeted delivery to specific cells or tissues.
