Description

CMP-Azido-Sialic Acid is widely used for metabolic labeling of cell surface glycans. By introducing azido-modified sialic acid into glycan biosynthetic pathways, it allows for the tracking and study of sialylated glycoconjugates in living cells. Once incorporated into the glycans, the azide group can be reacted with alkyne-modified probes via Cu-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC), enabling visualization and detection using fluorescence microscopy or flow cytometry. This technique is invaluable for studying glycoprotein dynamics, cell signaling, and glycan-mediated interactions. In addition, sialic acids are important components of cell-surface glycans and are involved in various biological processes, including immune recognition, cell adhesion, and viral entry. By using CMP-Azido-Sialic Acid, researchers can track sialylation events in real-time, offering insights into the role of sialic acids in health and disease.
