Description

DBCO-PEG1-NHS ester is a specific derivative of Dibenzocyclooctyne (DBCO) that contains a polyethylene glycol (PEG) spacer arm and an N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS) ester functional group. The inclusion of a PEG spacer arm in DBCO-PEG1-NHS ester provides several advantages. PEGylation helps increase the water solubility of the compound, reduces non-specific interactions with proteins and cells, and prolongs the circulation time of conjugated biomolecules in vivo. The NHS ester moiety can react selectively with primary amines (-NH2) on biomolecules. This reaction forms stable amide bonds, enabling the covalent attachment of the DBCO-PEG1 moiety to proteins, peptides, or other molecules containing primary amines.
