Description

FA-N3 (Folic acid-Azide) combines the targeting properties of folic acid with the reactivity of the azide group. Folic acid is a B-vitamin derivative with a pteridine ring, p-aminobenzoic acid, and glutamic acid. It is essential for DNA synthesis and repair and is known for its role in cell division and growth. Folic acid binds to folate receptors, which are overexpressed in certain types of cancer cells and other pathological tissues. The azide group is often used in click chemistry reactions, such as copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC), to attach various functional groups or biomolecules. FA-N3 can be used to target cells with high folate receptor expression, such as certain cancer cells. The azide group allows for further functionalization with therapeutic agents or drug carriers.
