Description

H-Cys(StBu)-2-CT Polystyrene Resin is a highly effective tool for peptide synthesis, particularly when cysteine functionality is required to remain inert during synthesis but needs to be activated later for specific biochemical reactions. The amino acid cysteine is central to this resin. Cysteine contains a thiol (-SH) group on its side chain, which is reactive and can form disulfide bonds or undergo other thiol-based reactions. In this case, the cysteine is pre-loaded onto the resin for ease of use in peptide synthesis. The thiol group of cysteine is protected by the StBu (S-tert-butyl) group, a bulky, non-polar protecting group. The StBu group shields the thiol (-SH) from participating in unwanted side reactions like disulfide bond formation or thiol-specific conjugation reactions during peptide assembly.
