Unlike other amino acids, proline has a secondary amine in its side chain, which forms a pyrrolidine ring. The chlorotrityl linker is commonly used in solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS) because it can be easily cleaved under mild acidic or basic conditions, allowing for easy release of the synthesized peptide from the resin after the elongation process is complete.
