Maleimido-mono-amide-DOTA (1,4,7,10-Tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7-tris-acetic acid-10-maleimidoethylacetamide) is a chemical compound used in various biomedical applications, particularly in the field of molecular imaging and targeted therapy. Maleimide is a chemical group (-C₄H₃NS-) known for its reactivity towards thiol (-SH) groups, forming stable thioether bonds. In MMA-DOTA, the maleimido group serves as a reactive site for conjugation with thiol-containing molecules, such as cysteine residues on proteins or peptides. DOTA is a chelating agent containing a macrocyclic structure with four carboxylic acid groups. It forms stable complexes with metal ions, particularly trivalent metals like gallium (Ga³⁺), indium (In³⁺), and lutetium (Lu³⁺). These metal complexes can be used for molecular imaging techniques such as positron emission tomography (PET) or single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT).
