Methyltetrazine is known for its high reactivity with strained alkenes, such as the group DBCO (dibenzocyclooctyne). PEG is often used in bioconjugation to improve solubility, reduce immunogenicity, and increase circulation time of conjugated molecules in biological systems. DBCO is a strained alkene that reacts specifically and rapidly with tetrazines via the inverse-electron-demand Diels-Alder (IEDDA) reaction. This reaction is bioorthogonal, meaning it occurs selectively in biological environments without interfering with native biochemical processes.
