Description

N-Boc-PEG2-alcohol is a compound consisting of a polyethylene glycol (PEG) spacer of two ethylene glycol units terminated with an alcohol functional group (OH) and protected with a tert-butyloxycarbonyl (Boc) group. The N-Boc (tert-butyloxycarbonyl) group serves as a protecting group, shielding the amine functionality. This protection is temporary and can be removed under mild conditions, typically with acidic or catalytic hydrogenation conditions, to reveal the primary amine functionality. The PEG spacer provides water solubility and flexibility to the molecule. PEGylation is commonly used in drug delivery to improve the pharmacokinetic properties of drugs, such as enhancing their circulation time, reducing immunogenicity, and increasing water solubility.
