Description

N3-PEG-Silicon phthalocyanines refers to a molecular conjugate that incorporates polyethylene glycol (PEG) functionalized with azide (N3) groups, and silicon phthalocyanines (SiPc). Silicon phthalocyanines serve as the photosensitizing agent in PDT, where light-activated SiPc generates ROS that induce cell death. PEG functionalization enhances the solubility and stability of the SiPc, while the azide group enables conjugation with targeting ligands that can direct the photosensitizer to cancer cells. This leads to selective destruction of cancer cells upon light irradiation, reducing damage to healthy tissues. The ability of SiPc to absorb light in the near-infrared region enables deeper tissue penetration, making PDT more effective for internal tumors that cannot be easily reached by visible light.
