Description

Plain Unsaturated 18:1 (Δ9-Cis) PC (DOPC) Liposomes, Lyophilized Powder consist of 18-carbon unsaturated fatty acids (oleic acid) with a cis double bond at the 9th carbon (Δ9-Cis). This configuration introduces a bend in the hydrocarbon chain, making the lipid tail more fluid compared to saturated lipids. DOPC liposomes are used in controlled-release formulations because their fluid membrane allows for the gradual release of encapsulated drugs or bioactive molecules. The permeability of the membrane ensures that drug release occurs over time rather than immediately. DOPC liposomes are also used in mRNA vaccine formulations. Their fluid bilayer helps encapsulate mRNA molecules and facilitates their delivery into cells, where the mRNA can be translated into the desired protein.
