Plain Unsaturated 18:2 (Cis) PC (DLPC) Liposomes, Lyophilized Powder are often used in biomedical research, drug delivery, and membrane model systems when enhanced membrane flexibility, permeability, or fusogenicity is needed. Due to the unsaturated nature of the oleic acid chains, the DLPC bilayer is more fluid compared to bilayers formed from saturated phospholipids. This fluidity results from the cis double bonds in the fatty acid chains, which prevent tight packing between lipids. In addition, the resulting bilayer is highly permeable to small molecules and can exhibit fusogenicity, or the ability to fuse with other membranes or cells. This makes DLPC liposomes useful for drug delivery and membrane studies.
