Polystyrene A Sulfonic Acid is used in ion-exchange resins. These resins are widely employed in water treatment processes, including softening, deionization, and purification. The sulfonic acid groups on the resin exchange hydrogen ions (H⁺) for metal cations like calcium (Ca²⁺) and magnesium (Mg²⁺), effectively reducing water hardness and preventing scale formation in industrial and household systems. This ion-exchange property is also used in chemical separation processes, where selective removal of specific ions is required.
