Description

Silica-Coated Upconverting Nanoparticles (Silica-Coated UCNPs) have been investigated for use in photodynamic therapy, a cancer treatment technique. When coupled with photosensitizers, these nanoparticles can be used to generate reactive oxygen species upon exposure to NIR light, selectively killing cancer cells. In addition, the UCNPs can be loaded with drugs or therapeutic agents and used for targeted drug delivery. The silica shell can be functionalized to attach targeting molecules, enabling precise drug delivery to specific cells or tissues.
