trans,​trans-​1,​4-​Benzenediacrolein (2-​Propenal, 3,​3′-​(1,​4-​phenylene)​bis-​, (E,​E)​-​; (2E,​2’E)​-​3,​3′-​(1,​4-​Phenylene)​bis[2-​propenal]​) is a compound with the molecular formula C10H8O2. Its structure consists of a benzene ring with two acrolein (prop-2-enal) groups attached to opposite sides at positions 1 and 4. Trans,trans-1,4-benzenediacrolein can serve as a crosslinking agent in the synthesis of crosslinked polymers. The reactive aldehyde groups present in the acrolein moieties can undergo condensation reactions with amine or hydroxyl groups in polymer chains, leading to the formation of covalent bonds and the creation of a three-dimensional network structure. The reactive aldehyde groups in trans,trans-1,4-benzenediacrolein can be utilized to modify biomolecules such as proteins or nucleic acids through chemical conjugation reactions. For example, the aldehyde groups can react with amino or thiol groups present in biomolecules to form stable Schiff base or thiazolidine linkages, respectively.
