Description

UCNP-PEG-PEI or UPP refers to a complex structure involving Upconversion Nanoparticles (UCNPs) functionalized with polyethylene glycol (PEG) and polyethyleneimine (PEI). Polyethylene Glycol is a biocompatible polymer commonly used to modify the surface of nanoparticles. PEGylation, or the attachment of PEG chains, helps improve the stability and biocompatibility of nanoparticles, reduces their immunogenicity, and prolongs their circulation time in biological systems. Polyethyleneimine is another type of polymer that is often used for nanoparticle functionalization. PEI contains amine groups, which can facilitate the conjugation of biomolecules or other functional groups to the nanoparticle surface. PEI can also facilitate cellular uptake of nanoparticles due to its cationic nature, making it useful for drug delivery and gene transfection applications.
